I had originally started the post above late last night with the text below… but decided there would be serious continuity problems, so I started over today at lunch.
This is a line from one of my favorite songs – “Georgia on my Mind.” I guess it reminds me of a place I will always call home. At heart I will probably always be a displaced boy from the south, where when people ask you, “How ya doin’…” they’re actually expecting an answer. I even owned a beatup old white diesel pickup truck (granted, Japanese made) that doubled as a “bus” when we piled everyone in the bed. I think that people can’t do that anymore because of seatbelt laws and such now. So the word “pine” in that song has a double meaning to me, because I find myself at times pining about balmy summer evenings and the red clay making ribbons in the streets as washoff during those sudden late afternoon thunderstorms.
This is what I sometimes think of when I hear the word “pining,” but I think that when most people mention “pining” they usually mean for another person they’re romantically interested in. It’s an interesting word because it can mean that yearning or longing for something unattainable, but it could also mean “wasting away” or “dying” as in a long illness. HAHA, how appropriate.
I was speaking with a friend of mine and she said something very interesting… she said, “For every guy who’s pining away… there’s a girl who wishes he wouldn’t…” I thought this was hilarious because I think that most guys believe they’re pretty discreet about showing that kind of thing. They think they’re being pretty stealthy when in reality they’re fishing with hand grenades…
Good taste in music. No matter what the reason is.
ah-ha! now i get what “pining” means… i read the recent entry BEFORE reading this one. hehehe… i was getting really confused reading the first paragraph of the recent entry, but after reading your “pining” definitions, things make more sense….
cool beans…. MORE ENTRIES!!! you should just write a book!! 🙂
Thanks, clickongnamool! (whoever you are! hahaha) Yes, I love Ray Charles’ rendition. I also like his rendition of “You are my Sunshine.” BTW, have you finished reading all my entries yet?
Glad to be of assistance, Ducky. HAHA, actually, one of my dreams/goals is to someday get published. I don’t know what exactly I’ll write, but look in the bookstores sometime around 2050 – ha!
FYI, sunhine is my middle name. And yes, I just finished it. What are you working on with your 6 strings thesedays? You are not bass, are you?
