It’s Not Me

I took one of those left brain / right brain tests some time ago, and it only confirmed what I already know.  I’m both or I’m neither.  Here are the results.

Right Brain||||||||||||48%
Left Brain||||||||||||44%
*results won’t usually add up to 100% as this test measures each side seperately

Brain Lateralization Test Results
Right Brain (48%) The right hemisphere is the visual, figurative, artistic, and intuitive side of the brain.
Left Brain (44%) The left hemisphere is the logical, articulate, assertive, and practical side of the brain

I think that a lot of people think they know who I am… either by reading my blog, or observing my behavior around others, or even by talking to me at length over IM or in person.  Truth be told, I don’t think that any of them really know the slightest thing about me.  And if you ask 10 different people about who I am you’ll probably get 10 different answers.  I think it’s because I can be virtually anything that people need me to be to suit them.  Wherever they can put me in a neat little cubby hole, that’s where I get crammed into.  And if I try to climb out of that space they’ve created for me… forget it.  I’m sure that even people who knew me for a while, after reading my xanga I’m sure they have a slightly different view of me which may still not be accurate.  I know there are people out there that only know me from my xanga, and if I were to meet them, they’d have another totally different opinion on me.  Allow me to illustrate just by using the results of my test above…

Right Brain Nate: (as described by Left Brain Nate)
This is the guy who you see on this site the most often – especially when he’s trying to be profound or tries to write poetry or music but just winds up putting on an flailing fruity display.  I think people think it’s creepy that it sometimes seems like he can read their minds.  People find it pretty easy to talk to him though because he is pretty intuitive, somewhat empathetic and can read between the lines.  In college his buddies had a nicknames for him like  “E Pluribus Nate” (Out of many – Nate).  This is because he would interject with some random thought or insight every now and then at completely inappropriate times.  Another nickname was “Misplaced Liberal Arts Major” because, though he went to Georgia Tech, most of his friends thought that he was too bohemian for an engineering school.

Here’s a list of some of his extracurricular activites at school (because they didn’t offer classes):
  • French Drama Troupe
  • Literary magazine editor
  • Music and Art appreciation seminars
  • Ballroom dancing classes

He’s also constantly using metaphor and analogies to explain his conceptions.  He seems to have this deep seated desire to want to move people which may come across as manipulation… watch out for that.  He should just get his head out of the clouds and get a grip.  His dreams of becoming a writer or musician someday is a bit far-fetched.  Personally, it makes him seem a little “light in the loafers” if you know what I mean…

Left Brain Nate: (as described by Right Brain Nate)
oh what a cold, passionless life he must live… this is the guy you’ll see mostly at his job… very logical and detail oriented… he’s constantly organizing things or making up bulleted lists for things like his college extracurricular activities… he’ll do things like when asked why it’s colder in the mountains than in the valleys he’d explain it using Boyle’s Law and expect the listener to be just as intereseted in it as he is.  It’s almost as if he feels like it’s his duty to inform those around him why a scenario like “The Planet of the Apes” could never actually occur in reality… hey Nate – no one cares!  He arranges the flood lights in his living room according to expected life so that and entire row burns out at once based on usage… he also decides what food in his refrigerator he’ll eat by which has the closest expiration date coming up… yes, he is that dorky…. I mean, sometimes he’s useful when something needs to get fixed or we’re playing trivial pusuit… but the following sentence would annoy the crap out of him… “.. its you’re decision on weather your going to ask them for there help before they tell you their moving here or they’re…”  Personally, I think he has borderline OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), but that’s just me… haha!

Well, that’s just a sampling… and, no, I don’t have schizophrenia.  Interestingly enough, one of my married friends once told me that I need to marry a “renaissance woman.”  I think she said this because I would have the unique ability to appreciate all of her facets… and she mine.  Well, as long as she’ll sing with me… tolerate my OCD… and doesn’t mind an analogy or two… I’m sure we’ll manage just fine.
