Getting Tired of It

Well, it looks like my company is making me cancel my flight back home and I will be working here in L.A. this weekend.  Don’t know exactly when I’m coming home at this point, but this is getting old.  The funny thing is, when I was asked, they made it seem like I should care if I’m viewed as a “dutiful worker bee.”  I don’t give a crap about how I’m viewed as long as I am good at what I do. 

I was told today that I need to work on my political correctness.  This is because the status emails that I’ve been sending have been a bit on the sarcastic and harsh side.  But I’m discovering that I could probably never be a middle-manager type or any position that requires a good deal of tact because I generally don’t hide my opinions.  If I think a process is stupid… I just say, “Hey, this process is stupid…”  And I don’t like kissing anyone’s butt.

I mean, the sole reason I’m here now is because some middle manager set a schedule that was impossible to keep… because it’s what the VP wanted to hear.  I told everyone that we’d never meet the schedule and was labeled as not being a “team player.”  What’s going to happen is this… I said that it would take a month to finish this task… they thought it would take a week… I’m putting in 100 hours a week and we’re going to be late by about a week.  They’ll say… “See!  It only took a week longer than our estimates…” not even looking at the fact that I’m putting in over a months’ worth of work in just two weeks.  They’ll look like geniuses for only being late by a week, and I’ll be labeled a malcontent for being so pessimistic, and nothing in this corporate structure will ever change.
