Last April about 12 of us guys rented a house on Deep Creek Lake for a weekend, and it was a great time of fishing, eating, playing cards, and relaxing on the lake. Our house was incredible and filled with all the amenities of a hotel and more… a jacuzzi, a deck, internet access, DVD players, games and puzzles… Here are photos of the house we rented.
So we’re thinking about doing it again this year. As it turned out, April was a bit early since not many places around the lake was open to do things like rent boats or other night-time entertainment. So I think we’re going to shoot for the second weekend in May. Last year it was only $90 each for two nights – and this included food. Maybe we could also rent an extra night for people who want to come up on Thursday if they wanted (they’d have to split the cost of the extra night, of course).
Unfortunately, the house we got last year is not available this year. But we can find another one just as good, I’m sure. Since we’d be going before Memorial Day, the prices are a lot more affordable. Click the following link to check out the different houses they offer: http://rentals.deepcreek.com
If we get enough people, we could even get one of those really big houses that have an indoor swimming pool, a pool table, and stadium seating TV rooms… but we’ll see if we can get enough people first. I’m going to try to keep it to around $100 per person.
Food:
Last year we ate very well… a little too well. So this year, we’re not going to go so overboard with the food, and more importantly, I’m not going to be cooking for everyone again. I want to have fun too. So we might make it so that people are responsible for their own food (there are supermarkets and restaurants in town). All the necessary cooking utensils and stuff are already included in the house, so it would just mean that we would have to do our own dishwashing… so I was thinking… if someone were to volunteer to do all the dishes for the weekend (we’ll buy paper plates and plastic cups and utensils too) and keep the kitchen clean, they can get a discount… like maybe 50%. OR maybe if we can get a volunteer or two to take care of all the cooking and cleaning duties, we could incorporate food into the cost for everyone else and they can come for free.
Boat:
Last year, all the boat rental places were closed. We were thinking of getting a pontoon boat (for fishing) or jet boat (for fun) and mooring it to the dock and just taking it out whenever we wanted. But we just wound up using Tom’s canoe. If we wanted to rent a boat this year, it would add to the cost… something to consider.
Transportation:
Like last year, we’re probably just going to have people form carpool groups, and then everyone else pay the driver for gas. I think it’s about a 3 hour drive. If we leave before 7AM, we could probably make it back to church on time for service. Or for those who don’t want to be rushed and want to spend Sunday around there, we could go to a church around there. Last time about 4 of us went to the Methodist church there and everyone was really friendly.
Interested? If so, let me know. If you ask anyone who went last year, I think they’ll tell you that we all had a really good time. In fact, people have been asking me if we’re going to do it again this year. I need to know a rough estimate to the number of people, so that I can find a good deal on a the best house on the lake for the money. Right now, I’m only opening this up to the guys, but if the ladies wanted to rent their own house nearby or if we get a big enough house where the women can take one wing of the house, then maybe…

YEAH BABY!!!! LET’S TEAR UP DEEP CREEK AGAIN!!!!!! WHOO-WHO!!!!Hey, don’t forget who did a lot of the grilling 🙂 I agree, somewhat. We’re all grown men (I hope). We should all be able to handle grilling meat and making sandwiches. And we didn’t “eat out” at the local restaurants, which can be good in itself for at least one meal.One more day would totally be worth it, so that way it actually feels as though we’re enjoying ourselves longer…I don’t know if I’d count watching the NFL draft on tv as entertainment 🙂 And did we even USE the DVD player?Anyways. Whatever you decide to do, I’m interested. It’s all about relaxing, anyways…
i’m interested! though i can’t go. haha
i want go and i wouldnt mind cooking. but last weekend in may is memorial day weekend. =/
As long as I don’t have to share a bed with Eddie Sah… I’m down to go!!!
Where is this and how do you get info on houses to rent and what there is to do. I am in all girl small group which is more like a double small group since we grew into 17 of us. Ages ranging form I think 19-30 basically right now. I would like to bring it up to them about maybe doing this as a group maybe. Some will not since they are going to the mission trip to Italy wanted to go, but unfortnately I do not have $2000 for that trip. And If I am to go to it God would have provided help for me to go. It is not time yet for me to go on a missions trip yet. message me info if you could. Thank you:) And yes I found you on the boosted page thing, but I was asking God to help me find mor Christians on xanga since the blogs felt ovewhelming. So that is how I ended up on your site. Only at times does the small group seem a bit big since we all cannot make it every week for bible study. But we are there for each other as much as we can:-}
