An imaginary conversation with myself from 10 years ago…
Past Me: Wow, you look old…
Now Me: Thanks… you always did have a way with words.
Past Me: I see that you haven’t lost any weight.
Now Me: Yeah, but I haven’t gained any either… in fact I’m still wearing some of your clothes.
Past Me: Gee great… So, I guess my fashion sense never got any better…
Now Me: Yep, in fact, it probably got worse… sorry about that.
Past Me: That’s okay… as long as you don’t wear black dress socks with shorts like dad did.
Now Me: Well…
Past Me: NO!!! Where’s the nearest bridge I can throw myself off of…
Now Me: I’m just kidding… sheesh, I really was a drama queen…
Past Me: So… no ring on that finger, huh?
Now Me: Nope, but don’t worry, mom and dad won’t pressure you as much as you think they will… especially since the grandkids came along…
Past Me: Uh… I hope they’re not yours.
Now Me: No, silly. You’re gonna be an uncle twice over… one from each of your siblings.
Past Me: Wow… what’s that like?
Now Me: You know… I know cognitively that there are probably cuter kids out there, but I can’t find any that are.
Past Me: Well, you’re probably biased…
Now Me: … and gladly so.
Past Me: So are you a millionaire yet?
Now Me: Yeah, about that… don’t hold your breath on that one.
Past Me: Man! I can’t believe it. You took your eyes off the prize!
Now Me: No, the prize is just different. Don’t worry, you’re gonna do fine, but don’t waste your time worrying about money too much. It’s not worth it.
Past Me: You sound like a wimp… what’s up with that?
Now Me: You just don’t know… I’m more confident than you ever were. You need to take more risks. Life is short.
Past Me: So… do you still think about “her”? You know… the one that broke your heart?
Now Me: Huh? Oh! Hmm… hehe… you know, not until you just mentioned it.
Past Me: Really? I’m still reeling from it.
Now Me: Don’t worry, you’re going to meet plenty of amazing people who’ll help you to forget.
Past Me: Alright! So I’m gonna be really popular with the ladies???
Now Me: HAHA, hardly. But you don’t know yourself or what you want, so don’t be a fool for every pretty face you see.
Past Me: And you know who you are so well?
Now Me: I’m not fool enough to say so, but in lots of ways, yes… I know.
Past Me: What’s the biggest change in my life?
Now Me: Well, you’re definitely not as emotional as you once were… in fact, you probably will miss some of the passion you once had.
Past Me: What’s stayed the same?
Now Me: Well, you’re still driving around in your Pathfinder…
Past Me: What?!?! Man, live a little… get a new car.
Now Me: Oh, you get a second car… but I’ll leave that a surprise.
Past Me: So, any advice for the next ten years?
Now Me: Yeah, one day you are going to want to hike the Grand Canyon with a few buddies… remember to take PLENTY of water! Trust me on that one.
Past Me: uh… okay… anything else?
Now Me: Yeah. Being right is not as important as being just… being just is not as important as being compassionate… and being compassionate is not as important as acting in compassion.
Past Me: …
Now Me: Oh, and one more thing… Google.
Past Me: … uh, you’re WEIRD
Now Me: Correction, WE’RE weird
Update: added Grand Canyon story link above. (Sorry desafina, your comment will no longer make any sense… hehe…)
hahaha how clever 🙂
thats cute! i think i might need one of these convos for myself~ hehe
hiking grand canyon has always been on my to-do list, very nice. =D
interesting post!!! i think one should always be able to look back & see how far you’ve come but just never live in the past. that will hinder the future you =o)
wow, that’s so awesome. i really want to do this same thing! it’s really funny though because i’ve written letters to my future self and read them a couple of years later.
You have a creative imagination. It really shows in you blog entry.
Sounds like my thoughts during an important test. Hilarious! – “In fact, I’m still wearing some of your clothes”
creative and entertaining. great post.
interesting concept
Nathon with an “O”
Haha! Awesome!
ahhaha creative and interesting 🙂
hahaha, great idea and sage advice at the end. 🙂
Sometimes I feel a part of the Past Me would smack around the Now Me if I knew then what I know now. You should make a video of this. Lol. I think everyone could probably relate on some level.
nice one nice one…..
almost one of the most creative ways of looking back at ur past and saying….
‘hey…..im looonnngg gone OVER her…! ‘
keep it up!!….
I love reading your posts. They either make me laugh, or make me think. The grand Canyon story was amazing. God showed his love and took care of you all along the way.
Your Grand Canyon story was incredible! And this post was pretty cool too.
I talked to myself sometimes too but not all the time without letting anyone else knows and they’ll like askin’ you “are you talking to yourself?” and you don’t want anyone else to ask you that dumb question right? you can talk to yourself if you want and you don’t want nobody to get into your business and your own conversation right even thought you want to talk to your friends and your family and please whatever you do don’t let them think your like a silly person too alright! they will think that your talking to you imaginary friends and imaginary people that you known for many years and years from now or until like in a past or present or something like that too! if you want to have your conversation into a privacy one with someone that your with and hang out wit also then the other people will probably not bother you or get into your own privacy conversation they ‘ll just leave you alone and leave you be free to yourself with your own buddies also too!
That’s a rather fun exercise!
Nice one, I really wanna apply your idea but nah, it’s yours. Congrats, good post.
This is an AWESOME post. I hope you won’t mind if I borrow the idea! Very creative. I’m already thinking about what I would have said to myself 10 years ago!
haha!! such a fun conversation! 🙂 i might have to think up something similar for me! ry x
You should keep that for the next 10 years and see what the convo looks like then.
That was a great post. I feel that sometimes its nice to sit back and reflect on what you’ve learned in life and to notice how you change as years go by. I don’t look back on life within the past ten years but little moments here and there, or major events that changed who I was.
I especially like the advice you gave to your past self at the end. It is ever so very true..
:o)
love the concept. very original. i truly enjoyed the post. =)
-aLLy-
thats totally cool
lol
Hahaha…this sounds like a good writing exercise.
This was such a great idea…
I actually kinda stole your idea and did an entry like this for myself….and it REALLY helped me to see how far I’ve come in the past 3 or 4 years of my life. All the growth and change I’ve undertaken. Wow! Thanks!
Great blog!
If only we all did this, there’d be some very interesting conversations.
dang you look really old
“Being right is not as important as being just… being just is not as important as being compassionate… and being compassionate is not as important as acting in compassion.”I really like this =)I think you’ve prob step into the future and back.
you will never find anyone anymore insightful than yourself
This was awesome. Makes me want to have an actual conversation with my past self and make sure I follow it…Thanks.
I really like this……I was browsing sites and found yours on the Xanga front page. You are such a good writer, I like how this is written.

i felt like i had multiple personality disorder er something ….thats when you know you have a good post..when you can somehow make me think i have a psychological disorder :)good job..–btd.ntxhis.

I found that interesting. I’ve often wondered how my 14 year old self and my current, 24 year old self would react to each other were they to meet.
i so totally do that when im bored! haha

i loved that, i just migth try that with myself if you don’t mind 🙂
