Must (not) See TV

I’ve given up TV for Lent… well, actually, just watching TV by myself (still allowing for social situations)… which is going to mean one of two things.  I’m either going to get a whole lot more other things done or I’m going to be bored out of my mind.

It’s going to be weird.  Ever since I started working, the first thing I almost always do when I get home is turn on the TV, not to necessarily watch, just to have some noise in the background.  Without it, all you hear is this ticking wall clock in my kitchen.  It’s pretty loud.  You can hear it from anywhere on the main floor of my house when it’s quiet.  I don’t mind the sound so much, in fact, it’s somewhat soothing, but it just makes this house seem all the more empty.

I’d like to say that I’m going to be praying and meditating on scripture during that time, but I don’t want to be a liar… in addition to being bored and stir crazy.

Maybe this will motivate me to invite more people over during the week or to get out of the house more… or maybe just to stop giving up stuff for Lent every year.

P.S.  To my new subscribers:  Welcome.  I bet you that reading about some guy’s TV habits is not what you signed up for – haha!  Well, I promise less mundane entries are coming soon… maybe not TOO much less, though – ha!

  1. I hear you on the backround noise, but instead I have been putting worship cds on instead.  I do not know what I am giving up for lent since I am not sure if this would count.  I am going to try to give up my bitterness instead of stewing in it.

  2. (what in the world is “preview by snap”? ‘ve never seen that on other xangas before; kinda kewl.)
i agree w/ radio & c.d.’s – and who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy listening to music more, after this… 😉
kepano green’s “emmanuel” is rockin’ good.  you might like that band/singer, not sure.

  3. I do not know if you are already doing this or not but since you will have more free time it will give you a chance to d this if you would like to .  You could lead a small group(bible study) or just host it at your place if you do not lead and someone else will.  It sounds like you have space to do this at your place.  Just a thought since it sounded like you planning to dive in scripture more.  And believe bible study is not boring.  It is amazing how the verse can have different meaning to people.
